The name of the new dental clinic near Stuttgart, “EDEL LEICHT,” translates to “exquisite lightness” or “noble simplicity.” It embodies the following concepts: painless procedures, ease of service, professionalism, comfort, and premium class. It’s about aesthetics associated with a beautiful smile and high-quality dental care that is maximally comfortable for patients. These core principles are also embodied in the clinic’s interior design, developed by the ZIKZAK Architects team.
DENTAL CLINIC EDEL LEICHT
Exquisite Lightness and Ecological Consciousness
The formative elements in the clinic’s design concept were: recycling and upcycling, lightness expressed in furniture and decor structures, and nobility evoked by aesthetics and coziness. The combination of high-tech dentistry with creative material reuse demonstrates the clinic’s innovative approach not only in treatment but also in design. Such an interior conveys that the medical facility keeps pace with modern trends not just in medicine, but also in social responsibility. The rational use of resources also hints at a sensible approach to patient treatment and finances.
Lightness in the interior is achieved through the use of glass, transparent polymer plastics, lightweight metal structures, and natural materials. The very architecture of the space is relaxed and weightless: smooth wall lines, softened textures, semi-transparent sliding doors to the offices, prevalence of light neutral colors, and minimalism.
The clinic is located near a forest. The design incorporates decor in the form of fallen tree trunks, emphasizing the connection with the external environment. At the re
ception, patients experience weightlessness, naturalness, and see references to the dental craft. The receptionist’s desk itself is made of transparent acrylic. A low table made of recycled plastic serves as a reception for young patients. The convex wall behind it is inspired by ceramic crowns and dental aesthetics. The wall decor – an oval made of recycled plastic with fibers – is a reference to hygiene procedures and dental care, reminiscent of a toothbrush.
The waiting areas are no less conceptual and ecological. Here, attention is captured by a composition of accent decorative panels in the form of dental mirrors, which doctors use to examine the oral cavity. All furniture is made from recycled materials or reused. Spikelets and straws used in the decor are inspired by nature and naturalness.
Custom-made furniture, such as a transparent table made of recycled plastic with dental burs, or a chair made from parts of vintage furniture encased in acrylic, are true art objects that you want to examine in detail.
The children’s areas in the clinic are imaginative and maximally vibrant. Here, the general concept is combined with colorful children’s motifs. The key character of the space is a fluffy blue monster who carefully looks after his smile. A wall with a multimedia screen reproduces animation in the form of his eye, while polypropylene tubes represent his fuzz. Fallen tree logs serve as a sofa in the children’s area.
The dental offices for adults are laconic and “clean”. In contrast, the children’s offices are equipped with compositions of animals and whimsical creatures on the ceilings. This is designed to keep young patients interested in looking at them while the doctor is performing treatment.
The clinic’s design embodies an innovative approach to creating a medical space where aesthetics, comfort, and environmental consciousness harmoniously blend with high-tech dentistry. This is not just dental services, but a holistic experience where care for patients’ health works in tandem with care for the environment and aesthetic satisfaction. The interior design demonstrates how a modern medical facility can simultaneously be elegant, comfortable, and environmentally responsible.
