Loft style office design

The word loft is of English origin and literally translates as “loft. During the recession of the 1950s in the U.S., there was a precipitous rise in land rental prices, and industries were forced to move production to the suburbs. In the 1960s and ’70s, however, vacant buildings that sold for pennies found uses. One of the most legendary was Andy Warhol’s New York atelier, located in the former Silver Factory hat factory. The fashion for post-industrial interiors spread quickly enough to other countries and became quite firmly established in the residential and commercial industry.

Strictness, refined elegance, large spaces and limited color palette are all characteristic features of the loft style. Despite the fact that the style arose out of necessity during the years of crisis, today it is considered an extremely sophisticated symbol of taste, freedom and artistic aspirations in the design of office and commercial spaces. Such an interior echoes the spirit of freedom, opens up space for creative thought, and stimulates the search for unconventional solutions. The open space promotes productive collaboration between employees, and implements a transparent open-door policy between employees and management.

Lofts are large spaces where there are practically no walls and partitions (installed as needed). All functional areas are divided by different types of zoning (color contrasts, accent lighting or glass partitions, which do not violate the basic concept of open space)

Characteristic elements of industrial interiors are open elements of design and installation of the building, as well as partially or completely brick walls .
Lighting in the loft interior
Complementing the natural lighting can be industrial fixtures in steel fittings. Widely used floor lamps, chandeliers, strip lighting. On the windows, instead of curtains and drapes are used blinds.
