Not so long ago, organizing a workspace at home was the privilege of exclusively freelancers. Among the main advantages of working from home, as a rule, the standard ones sound:
● no need to look for a parking space (or enjoy traveling on public transport);
● negotiate with colleagues about the temperature on the air conditioner, open window or ajar doors;
● “enjoy” the noise of office plankton, rush for constantly running out cookies or wait in line to use the toilet.
Today, many of us have had the opportunity to appreciate these and other benefits of working from home, as well as test our own talents as a designer and office manager in our own apartment. Let’s start with the usual set of spaces, as not every apartment has a separate wardrobe, laundry room, or terrace. So, at your complete disposal: an entrance hall, a living room, a bathroom, a bedroom (if you are suddenly lucky to live at least in a two-room apartment, and not be crowded in a one-room apartment with your father-in-law, mother-in-law, your wife’s brother and his girlfriend, a couple of cats and a parrot), a corridor, a kitchen and a balcony. What options?
Home office or quarantine month
1. Turn the hallway into a reception area with a storage compartment. In principle, nothing special needs to be done for this, it is enough to follow a simple ritual – always leave the keys to the apartment at the reception. This will allow you to subconsciously tune in to a working mood, and the rest of the time to keep the keys, for example, in your pocket. Although this is completely optional, of course.
2. It goes without saying that the corridor is ideal for use as a bicycle parking. If your job requires a certain privacy or special concentration, then this given passage can turn into a pet friendly area.
3. The living room has truly unlimited potential, as it can be transformed into almost any office space. This is a print zone, a meeting room, an open space, a Skype room, and an office. In addition, the living room is ideal for becoming a lecture hall or conference room. Please note that this is practically the only place where it is possible to hold a business meeting with or without pajamas alone.
4. With the kitchen, everything is simple and logical. Regardless of where it is located (in an apartment or a coworking space), its only purpose is to store and prepare food. Simply put, there are several kitchen modifications:
● fresh bar;
● coffee point;
● restaurant (for lunch outside the office), etc.
5. Bedroom. Here, too, we will do without surprises and imagine that this room is a lounge area. Any of the existing methods of relaxation are available here: meditation, yoga, intellectual games, and more.
6. Another place designed to significantly increase productivity and productivity is the balcony. It can become both a place for walking and a hookah bar. It also provides an ideal area for landscaping and tremendous nervous system recovery.
Another benefit of working from home is sports opportunities. While some companies offer their staff offices with rooms for sports or paid gym membership, you can do push-ups from the floor or chair, work on the abs or do hyperextension without any problems anytime, anywhere. At the same time, no colleague will look askance at your preparation for the beach season.
The bathroom is another place that lends itself perfectly to transformation. It can be easily modified into a meeting room, SPA-salon or playroom. You should also not forget about the reverse transformation, when any of the premises of the home office becomes a child’s room for a while, and you become a professional nanny. But this is a completely different story, not having much to do with the atmosphere of Silicon Valley.
