The power of color in office interiors

What colors should dominate office interiors to make employees feel better and more efficient in their duties? Psychologists have many theories on this topic – from general principles – applicable to office spaces, to matching the color tone to the industry in which the company operates. One thing is for sure, colors can’t be a coincidence. Experts of the architectural studio ZIKZAK will tell you how to master colors in your interior!

How we perceive colors and how we react to them is an individual matter, but it is impossible to hide the fact that they affect us and our psyche. The color of walls, furniture, floors and other equipment has a significant impact on how we function in a given room, especially when we have to spend 8 hours a day there.
The general rule regarding the color palette in the office interior is quite simple: it should be dominated by warm, bright and not very saturated colors. Warm tones make the office interior cozy. Bright – improve the mood, especially in rooms where there is a lack of natural light.

According to the general principles and recommendations of psychologists, it is worth paying attention to such colors as:
Blue is calming and promotes concentration and mental work. It is a good choice for a conference room, and spaces for employees who perform particularly responsible tasks;
green – according to the latest trends, it is best used in the form of live plants. Impressive green walls, containers of greenery or just individual flowers in the work area, not only have a positive effect on our mood, but also improve the air quality in offices and neutralize harmful substances;
Shades of yellow – often used in offices because yellow is a color that has very positive connotations: it is associated with sunshine, joy, peace. It gently stimulates and allows you to keep your attention on tasks. However, yellow and orange, in a saturated version suggests use as accents that enliven the interior and accompany the other colors;
Light browns and beiges are also frequently chosen colors in office design, they have a calming effect and are above all neutral to the eyes and do not cause rapid fatigue. Earth colors in office design can be combined with more lively accents, such as orange, red or purple;

Red is one of those colors that most intensely affects our bodies. We associate it with blood and danger, so it “makes” our body act – increases our blood pressure and speeds up our heart rate. Therefore, such an intense stimulus needs to be carefully dosed.
